Lofty Valley Artisan, by Lani Ramsey

Lofty Valley Artisan makes beautiful slow cloth here in the Adelaide Hills — carded, spun, knit and handwoven, Saori style.

It’s the lifelong fibre art project of Lani Ramsey, a Canadian now living and working from her studio gallery at Lofty Valley Estate, near Ashton in the Adelaide Hills.

Lani takes inspiration from long walks with her fur-babies in the vineyard surrounding her studio.

She draws on more than three decades of spinning, weaving and natural dyeing experience to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind wearable art pieces, made from wool, cotton, hemp, silk, alpaca, quiviet and more.

Visit Lani’s shop and gallery, located within the Lofty Valley Estate Cellar Door, for a constantly changing mix of natural fibre artistry, including:

  • Hand-spun woollen yarn and cloth — made from Adelaide Hills fleeces.
  • Cosy jumpers, cardigans, shawls and scarves, all hand knitted, crocheted and woven.
  • Garments naturally dyed with indigo plant pigment, the world’s oldest natural source of blue dye.
  • Rust dyed garments.
  • Natural-fibre woven baskets.
  • Handmade woollen dreadlocks.
  • Handmade soaps.
  • And more — Lani also delves into working with staves, hand carving, woodworking and more, always with a focus on fibre in art.
